What Is The Fire Resistance Rating Of Rock Wool Board?

Rock wool board, a widely used thermal insulation material in the construction industry, has always had its fire resistance performance as a focus of attention for both the industry and consumers. According to current national standards and actual application tests, the fire resistance rating of rock wool board typically reaches Class A, the highest level of fire resistance for building materials. This means that the material possesses non-combustible properties and can effectively prevent the spread of fire in high-temperature environments, providing crucial protection for building safety.

 

Analysis of Rock Wool Board Fire Resistance Rating Standards my country's "Classification of Burning Performance of Building Materials and Products" (GB 8624-2012) classifies building materials into four levels: A (non-combustible), B1 (flame-retardant), B2 (combustible), and B3 (flammable). Rock wool board uses natural basalt as its main raw material, which is melted at high temperatures and then centrifuged to form fibers, which are then cured and molded. Its inorganic mineral properties determine its excellent fire resistance. Tests show that rock wool boards maintain structural stability even at 1000℃, exhibiting no open flame or molten dripping during combustion performance testing, and meeting safety standards for smoke toxicity. Therefore, it is explicitly classified as a Class A fire-resistant material. It is worth noting that some composite rock wool boards on the market (such as products with a decorative layer) require overall testing, and their fire resistance rating may vary depending on the composite process.
